Guest Notes for Mastermind.fm Podcast

Format

We will pick a topic from the ones suggested by you and have an open discussion in a typical mastermind fashion. The target is a 30 to 45 minute show that's pretty focused. A typical show will be as follows:

Jean or James will open the show and throw to a sponsor. We will then introduce you and the topic and dive right into discussion.

We'll break once in the middle of the show to mention another sponsor and continue our discusion. We will then break for one last sponsor and then return for a wrap up.

Questions

As we wrap up the show we may like to have you offer some common, or better yet, not so common advice on the topic being discussed. Below are a few questions we could ask so you can be prepared.

  1. If someone could only read one book on today's topic, what would you recommend?
  2. Who are the other leaders in this areas we should be following?
  3. What's one tip concerning this topic that if applied would have a positive impact on our businesses?

Tips for Good Recording

We will be be talking via Skype. Because all of us are in different locations and we all know how unreliable an internet connection can be, so we will all record our own audio track locally. We recommend Audacity (http://www.audacityteam.org) since it's free. You could also use something like QuickTime player, described below.

You can share your file with us via Dropbox. Once all files are collected we will handle putting the tracks together in post production.

  1. On a Mac, open QuickTime Player and go to File > New Audio Recording.
  2. Click the tiny arrow next to the record button and select Quality Maximum and the correct microphone
  3. Drag the volume slider all the way to the left (off)

To that end, there are a few things we can do to make sure that we get good bandwidth and audio quality:

  • Please use headphones. That will reduce feedback and echoing.
  • Turn off Dropbox and other syncing services. These tend to kill bandwidth.

Other things that could help if possible:

  • Connect via ethernet right into the modem or router
  • Use a mic other than the one built-in to the computer
  • Restart the computer and boot up Skype right before we record

That's about it! Looking forward to recording! And thanks for being on the show!
