Quest for Free AI with actual live websearch

✨ Quest for Free AI with actual live websearch

This Gist reports my tests on the "List of software that allows searching the web with the assistance of AI"

I have tested only DEMOs from the OPEN SOURCE section that DON'T require an account.

Method

The AI will be given 3 questions:

  1. Are you capable of actual live websearch?
I was told that AIs don't always disclose this, so I try to ask the other 2 anyway.
  2. What is the title of today's Wikipedia's featured article?
Getting this right means that the AI has "basic fetch".
  3. Fetch the title and url of the latest project of user "DavidBevi" on Github (not GISTS)
Getting this right means that the AI has "advanced fetch".

TL;DR: the best ones

ChatLima [❌❌❌ Oh boy!]

ChatLima is an aggreagator with many models, but only some are available outside the paywall, and you only can ask 10 questions.

After you finish your 10 tokens a button that wasn't visible before appears, and when you hover it says "Sign-up and purchase tokens to enable web search".

I tried anyway with my 3 questions:

  1. ❌ [Every free model has said "no", many have said they have a cutoff in 2023]
  2. ❌ [Some models tried and failed, some got stuck, some provided instructions to let user search for themselves]
  3. ❌ [Some models tried and failed, some got stuck, some provided instructions to let user search for themselves]
