The Ultimate "Jesus Christ as a Playable Character in D&D" Build

This is split it into two versions: Pre-Easter Jesus (as the mortal, incarnate figure actively ministering) and Post-Easter Jesus (as the risen, glorified, divine being). Both rooted in lore, but mechanically unique.

Version 1: Pre-Easter Jesus (The Incarnate Teacher, Healer, and Prophet)

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.”
– John 1:14

Core Themes:

  • Mortality, compassion, teaching, healing
  • Human with divine connection
  • Performs miracles, but through divine channeling
  • Not invincible — he can suffer and die

Build:

  • Race: Human-Aasimar Half Breed or Custom Lineage because his mother was human, and he was born on the Prime Material Plane, though his father wasn't human
  • Class: Cleric (Peace Domain or Life Domain)
  • Background: Hermit (fasting in the desert), Folk Hero (beloved by common people), Sage (rabbi/teacher)
  • Feats:
    • Inspiring Leader – giving hope through speech
    • Healer – laying on hands, non-magical care
    • Magic Initiate (Cleric/Druid) – for thematic cantrips

Stats (Standard Array + Human bonuses):

Stat Value Justification
STR 13 Carpenter background, manual labour
DEX 10 Not known for acrobatics
CON 12 Fasted 40 days, endured a lot
INT 13 Debated temple scholars
WIS 17 Divine insight and perception
CHA 15 Drew crowds, inspired followers

Spell Picks:

Spell Role
Create or Destroy Water Wine miracle, desert sustenance
Calm Emotions Soothing the storm within people
Command “Peace. Be still.” or “Rise.”
Sanctuary Aura of untouchable peace
Tongues Speaking across cultures
Cure Wounds / Healing Word Direct healing miracles
Water Walk Walking on the sea
Create Food and Water Feeding the multitudes
Revivify Raising the dead (e.g., Lazarus)

Roleplay Notes:

  • Still very much human, though touched by divinity
  • Struggles, mourns, and feels pain
  • Uses wisdom and compassion to change hearts
  • “My kingdom is not of this world” — focus on hearts and minds

Version 2: Post-Easter Jesus (The Risen Lord, Cosmic Saviour)

“I am the Alpha and the Omega… the Living One. I was dead, and now look, I am alive forever and ever!”
– Revelation 1:17–18

Core Themes:

  • Fully divine and glorified
  • Outside of time and death
  • Radiant, otherworldly presence
  • Possibly even beyond mortal class systems

Build:

  • Race: Protector Aasimar (or homebrew "Ascended" template)
  • Class: Cleric (Peace or Knowledge Domain) + optional Sorcerer (Divine Soul) or Paladin
  • Background: None – he transcends mortal origins (or keep Folk Hero as a callback)
  • Feats:
    • Resilient (WIS or CHA) – unshakeable resolve
    • Magic Initiate (Cleric) – for radiant thematics
    • Gift of the Gem Dragon – optional for telekinetic flavour ("And he vanished from their sight")

Stats (Boosted as Risen Entity):

Stat Value Justification
STR 10 Physical limitations no longer matter
DEX 12 Glides with grace
CON 14 Now immortal
INT 14 Knows all hearts and minds
WIS 18 Divine insight maximized
CHA 18 Radiates glory and authority

Spell Picks (High-Level, Radiant & Cosmic):

Spell Role
Resurrection / Raise Dead / Revivify Mastery over death
Holy Aura Radiant transfiguration
Plane Shift Ascension or appearances
Greater Restoration Breaking curses and mental chains
Word of Recall “Teleport” to a holy place (like Emmaus or the Sea of Galilee)
Flame Strike Righteous judgment (rare use, if ever)
Mass Heal Instant restoration to masses
Sunbeam Glorified light imagery
Sanctuary / Warding Bond Still protects others before self

Roleplay Notes:

  • Speaks less but with immense power
  • Appears suddenly, disappears at will
  • Nonviolence persists — never attacks, but his mere presence changes the scene
  • Beyond death — Banishment might actually just recall him to Heaven

Narrative Play Ideas:

Scene Version
Walking on water, calming a storm Pre-Easter Jesus with Water Walk + Calm Emotions
Feeding the 5,000 Pre-Easter with Create Food and Water
Resurrecting Lazarus Late Pre-Easter (Lvl 9+) with Raise Dead
Post-resurrection appearances Post-Easter Jesus with Plane Shift or Word of Recall
Ascension Final Post-Easter Jesus moment using Plane Shift or a homebrew ability

Bonus Thought: Dual Build or Transformation?

You could have a single character who transforms — think of it as:

Act I – Jesus, the Teacher (Cleric 10)
Act II – Jesus, the Risen (Aasimar transformation, +Divine Soul Sorcerer levels)

Maybe even build in a custom Epic Boon or DM-permission transformation where his race, abilities, or subclass shift post-Easter. Think Mythic Level Play, like Exalted characters or demigods.
