| incus-spawn vs Alibaba OpenSandbox | |
| OpenSandbox (open-sourced March 2026) is a sandbox-as-a-service API platform for AI agents. Python/Go FastAPI server orchestrating Docker/K8s containers, with SDKs in five languages. Target: platform teams building multi-tenant AI agent products at scale (think E2B or Daytona). Inside each sandbox, a Go daemon (execd) with an embedded Jupyter kernel handles code execution — these are purpose-built execution environments, not general-purpose machines. | |
| incus-spawn is a local-first CLI/TUI that gives AI coding agents a full Linux workstation. Single-user, runs on your laptop, no cluster needed. | |

| Where they overlap | |
| Both provide isolated environments for AI agents to run untrusted code, both inject credentials without exposing them inside the sandbox, and both are Apache 2.0. | |
| Bottom line | |
| OpenSandbox is infrastructure you'd use to build a product that offers sandboxed AI code execution at scale. incus-spawn is what you'd use as a developer to safely let an AI agent work on your codebase with full-fidelity tooling. They're complementary rather than competitive — a platform built on OpenSandbox could offer something like isx's experience to end users, but it would lack the deep developer-workstation features (CoW branching, git remotes, MITM proxy with multi-auth, YAML tool system) that come from the local-first, single-user design. |
