Obtainability of Discord Badges

Obtainability of Discord Badges

Written by TwilightZebby so he can link this for the next 1000 people to ask this very common question.

Important

  • Please do NOT treat Discord Badges as trophies or collectables. They are not.
  • Please do NOT be the next reason why Discord makes yet another Discord Badge unobtainable or shuts down another Program because of "badge hunting" culture.
    • Yes, it's happened too many times.
  • No, gaining a Discord Badge won't earn you friendships or relationships. Only an influx of spam & scam DMs/Pings!
  • Discord's Badges are just pixels on your screen. They literally don't mean anything in the grand scheme of things.

Note

As of August 2026, Discord has confirmed they are working on a new profile setting that will allow you to toggle the public visiblity of Badges you have unlocked on your Profile.

This note will be updated once this new setting has been publicly released. At this current time however, it is NOT on any rollout. (Use of client mods or console scripts to override yourself into experiments does NOT count)

Obtainable User Badges

Note

These are Badges which are currently OBTAINABLE - as in, it is possible to get them if wanted.

Any Badge with the [Experimental] Flair means they are currently on a random rollout, and not every User will have access to, or be able to see, these Badges.

✅ Nitro Badge

  • Given automatically to anyone with an active Nitro subscription (of any tier of Nitro, doesn't matter which).
    • However, if you received Nitro via Discord's Quests system, or via a free Nitro Trial that Discord themselves provided, you will not receive the Nitro Profile Badge.
  • This Badge "evolves" (changes) over time, depending on how long you've been subscribed to full Nitro for. (Basic & Classic tiers of Nitro do not have evolving Badges, only full Nitro).
  • Is removed automatically from your account when you no longer have an active Nitro subscription.

Note

As of September 2026, there is conflicting information as to if Nitro Basic now has the evolving Badges, or if Discord only updated the look of the Nitro Basic Badge. Likewise, there is uncertainty about if Orb-brought Nitro Credit comes with the Badge or not.

This section will be updated once this information can be accurately verified.

✅ Server Boost Badge

  • Given automatically to anyone with an active Server Boost subscription, AND has at least one Server Boost attached to a Server.
  • This Badge "evolves" (changes) over time, depending on how long you've been Boosting Servers without fully cancelling all of your Server Boosts.
    • It works based on the TOTAL number of months you've been Boosting for.
    • For example: If you started Boosting on 15th January, you would need to wait until 15th March to get the 2-Months version of the Badge, as 15th March would mark 2 full COMPLETED months of Boosting for you.
  • Is automatically removed from your account when you either no longer have any active Boost Subscriptions, OR you no longer have any Boosts attached to Servers.

✅ Discord Staff Badge

  • Given to all employees working at Discord, the company.
    • Yes, as in, have an actual job at Discord. Working for Discord. :)
  • Discord's open job positions can be seen, and applied for, on Discord's website.
  • Discord Employees are able to manually toggle visiblity of their own Staff Badge.
    • That said, they have an internal policy to keep the Staff Badge visible when they're acting or speaking officially.
    • If someone is pretending to be a Discord Employee and they don't have the Staff Badge on their Profile, report them.
    • If you want to confirm the person talking to you is a Discord Employee, you can always contact Discord Support. Be sure to give the User ID of that person too.
  • This Badge is automatically removed from the User's account when they no longer work at Discord.

✅ Quests Badge

  • Given to everyone who has completed at least one Discord Quest.
  • Once earnt, this Badge is permanently kept once you have earnt it. It doesn't go away when the Quest you completed expires.
  • This Badge is unique in that it is the only Badge to also display next to your playing/custom status in the Member List sidebar, if you meet certain conditions:
    • The Quests Badge will only appear next to your status if you are screensharing or playing a game that Discord has an active Quest for at that time.
    • Screensharing/Playing any other game will not show the Quests Badge next to your status
    • Similarly, the Quests Badge will also not show next to your status if you are playing a game that previously had a Quest, but that Quest is no longer active.
  • This Quests Badge does not evolve/change - you keep the same Quests Badge after earning it.

✅ Orbs Badge

  • Unlockable via spending Orbs (Discord's virtual currency) in Discord's Profile Cosmetics Shop
  • Once brought with Orbs, it is permanently kept on your account.
  • The Orbs Badge does not evolve/change - you keep the same Orbs Badge after unlocking it.
  • More info in this linked support article

✅ Account Age Badge [Experimental]

  • Automatically unlocked once your account is older than 1 year
  • Shows how many years your account has existed on Discord, with the Badge maxing out at 10 years (10+ years shows a star icon instead of a number)

✅ Streaming Badge [Experimental]

  • Unlocked when you have screenshared, with another User watching, for a total of at least 1 hour in a Discord Call or Voice Channel
    • This is a total time, it does NOT have to be in 1 session. So two sessions of 30 minutes screensharing will also count, for example.
  • This Badge requires analytics to be enabled in your User Settings in order to be unlocked/levelled up
  • There are 10 tiers to this Badge, with each tier being unlocked the more hours you have screenshared on Discord.
  • The highest tier for this Badge is unlocked at 5000 hours of screensharing.

✅ Game Time Badge [Experimental]

  • Unlocked when you have played at least 1 hour of any detectable game on Desktop (Win/Mac/Linux) while having Discord open
    • "Detectable game" means Discord has to be able to automatically detect you are playing that game, ie: it appears above your You Bar in the bottom-left corner when you have the game open
  • This Badge requires analytics & game activity detection to be enabled in your User Settings in order to be unlocked/levelled up
  • There are 10 tiers to this Badge, with each tier being unlocked the more hours of detectable gameplay you have.
  • The highest tier for this Badge is unlocked at 5000 hours of gameplay.

✅ Game Variety Badge [Experimental]

  • Unlocked when you have played at least 2 unique detectable games with Discord open
    • "Detectable game" means Discord has to be able to automatically detect you are playing that game, ie: it appears above your You Bar in the bottom-left corner when you have the game open
  • This Badge requires analytics & game activity detection to be enabled in your User Settings in order to be unlocked/levelled up
  • There are 10 tiers to this Badge, with each tier being unlocked the more unique games you play.
  • The highest tier for this Badge is unlocked at 100 unique games played.

Questionably Obtainable User Badges

Note

These are Badges which are made obtainable randomly, but are technically unobtainable most of the time.

ℹ Bug Hunter Badges

  • There are two Bug Hunter Badges - Tier 1 (the green one) and Tier 2 (the gold one).
  • These were given out to those who contributed greatly to Discord's Testers Community.
  • As the Discord Testers Community has been made private (since mid-2022), the ability to obtain these Badges are almost non-existent now.
    • That said, VERY OCCASIONALLY, Discord does open applications to join the Testers Community. Feel free to keep tabs on this Support Article as, if applications are open, it'll be posted there.
  • More information can be seen on Discord's Support Article.

Important

Submitting bugs via the Support Portal and Security Vulnerability forms do NOT count towards the Bug Hunter Badges. Please ignore ANY unofficial YouTube video or social media post that says otherwise!

Yes, I am aware SOME people have got the Badge Hunter Badge from the Security Vulnerability form. However, Discord is VERY aware of people trying to do anything just for a virtual profile badge. So if you're ONLY doing things for the Badge - you aren't going to have a fun time!

As of 2025, Discord has migrated from using HackerOne to using BugCrowd for their security vulnerability program. As such, it is now likely this is no longer a valid route for obtaining the Bug Hunter Badge.

UNobtainable User Badges

Note

These are Badges which are NO LONGER OBTAINABLE. So don't even bother trying to get them :)

❌ Last Meadow Online Badge

  • This Badge was introduced for Discord's April Fools 2026 event
  • It could be obtained by levelling up at least once in Discord's "Last Meadow Online" game, which was playable in-client from April 1st to April 7th 2026.
  • The Badge shows the User's highest EXP level they earnt before the game was removed.
  • As of April 8th 2026, this Badge is unobtainable due to the game no longer being playable (and the April Fools event ending).
  • Strangely, unlike the Lootbox Badge from April Fools 2024, the Last Meadow Online Badge was added to Discord's Badges Support Article and is seemingly being kept beyond April Fools.

❌ HypeSquad House Badge(s)

  • There are three HypeSquad House Badges - Brilliance, Bravery, and Balance.
  • The HypeSquad Houses used to be a community program that had organised competitions between the houses (with rewards), as well as a regularly sent email newsletter.
  • In the past, these used to be claimable (and removeable) via User Settings > HypeSquad (on the Desktop/Web versions of Discord) and completing the quiz there.
  • It was not possible to claim more than one of the HypeSquad House Badges. The Quiz would give you one of the three House Badges depending on your answers.
  • In September 2025, Discord removed the in-client ability to obtain the HypeSquad House Badges from the Desktop & Web versions of Discord.
  • More info in this linked support article

❌ Partnered Server Owner Badge

  • Was given to Users who own a Partnered Server.
  • As of October 2023, Discord has placed the Server Partner Program in a "zombie" state - preventing anyone from applying for Partnerships. Thus, rendering the Badge unobtainable.
  • In February 2024, Discord updated their profile badges support article to state that this Partnered Badge is unobtainable.
  • During 2025, Discord Employees confirmed (in the chats of the Discord Admins Server) that the Server Partnership Program is fully dead now. Additionally, if Partnerships were to return, it would most likely look completely different and be under a new name.
  • TL;DR - Server Partnerships are a fully dead program, and current Partnered Servers will retain their Partnership Perks for the forseeable future (until otherwise officially stated).
  • In mid-2026, Discord announced a major change in how they will be handling the Partnered Server Owner Badge moving fowards, in an effort to reduce the amount of scams and malicious targeting of those with this Badge.
  • These changes are as follows:
    • Any compromised account with this Badge, if account recovery is not possible, will lose the Partner Badge & all perks with it. Additionally, all Partnered Servers the compromised account owns will lose their Partnered Status, including the "Partnered Server" icon.
    • While Server Ownership transfers (via support tickets) will still be possible, they will now come with the cost of completely losing all Partner status & perks, including the Profile Badge, free Nitro, and Partnered Server icon. Meaning the new owner of the Server will not receive any Partner perks or status.

❌ HypeSquad Events Badge

  • Previously given to those part of the HypeSquad Events program, which were those who attended physical, real life, conventions in-person to represent Discord.
  • This program was paused in 2019, and after being paused for about 4 years, has been fully shutdown as of 1st September 2023.

❌ Moderator Program Alumni Badge

  • This Badge was previously called the "Certified Moderator Badge"
  • This was given to Users who contributed greatly to Discord's Moderator Academy Program.
    • When Discord shut down the Program tied to this Badge, they renamed the Badge to its current name, and granted it to all members of the now shutdown official Moderator Servers.
    • (Including the Sapphire Bot by accident, but they quickly removed the Badge from the Sapphire Bot).
  • As of 2023, Discord fully shut down their Moderator Academy Program, and the two Servers connected to it.

Important

To note: This Moderator Badge does NOT mean the User worked or is working at Discord as an employee. It only means the User was part of Discord's Moderator Academy volunteer program.

These Users do NOT have any special permissions or abilities over other Users.

❌ Early Supporter Badge

  • This Badge was only given out ONCE, for everyone who had brought the original Nitro subscription before 10th October 2018.
  • The Early Supporter Badge was a way for Discord to recognise Users who had brought Nitro before Discord split it into multiple tiers.
  • Since it was only given out once, this Badge is, by default, UNOBTAINABLE.

❌ Early Verified Bot Developer Badge

  • This Badge was given out to owners of Verified Bots when the ability to verify Bots were first introduced.
  • However, due to the influx of fraudlant and spam applications by those solely targeting the Badge, this Badge was rendered unobtainable, and renamed to its current name.
  • The original update post describing why Discord made this Badge unobtainable can be seen on Discord's GitHub Repo.
  • It is possible to lose this Badge, if you no longer own (either directly or via a Team on the Developer Portal) any Verified Bots.
    • This also includes if you fail to re-verify your Bot(s) when requested to do so by Discord (which happens once every 3 years after initial verification).

❌ "Originally Known As" Badge

  • This Badge is given automatically to Users who had created their Account prior to Discord's Username System Update in early 2023, AND had updated their Username to the new Username System.
  • This Badge is also the first one ever to have a public visiblity toggle for Users.
  • Accounts created after the Username Migration cannot gain this Badge, for hopefully obvious reasons.
  • Support Article for more information

Deleted User Badges

Note

These Badges have been completely deleted/removed from Discord. As such, they no longer exist in Discord's code, and thus are impossible to obtain.

💀 Active Developer Badge

  • Used to be claimable by Users who own (or are part of a team that owns) a Bot which has:
    • At least one global application command
    • Has had its global application command(s) used at least once per month
    • and the user had "Use data to improve Discord" ENABLED in their own User Settings > Privacy & Safety
  • The badge, if the user met the requirements, could have been claimed here on Discord's Developer Portal.
  • Users would have lost the badge if they no longer met the requirements after 30 days. (Requirements were automatically checked once every 30 days to ensure the user still met them to keep the Badge).
  • Users could also manually remove the Badge from your account by navigating to the Developer Portal and pressing the "Remove Badge" button.
  • This badge was made unobtainable, and FULLY removed from Discord, on 5th December 2025.
    • As such, this badge is now the first badge not made for an event that was fully removed from Discord. (The Lootbox Badge was made for April Fools 2024, and was intentionally designed to be removed, hence this note)
  • More info about its removal in this linked support article

💀 Lootbox (or Clown) Badge

  • This Badge was created for Discord's April Fools 2024 event, where you could open Loot Boxes from your User Settings page.
  • Currently, it is unique for being the only Badge to be connected to an Avatar Decoration - it vanishes from your profile when you are NOT wearing the connected Avatar Decoration.
  • To obtain it, Users had to unlock & apply a Clown Avatar Decoration (which is unlocked after finding all 9 items from Discord's Loot Boxes)
    • Simply unlocking the Clown Avatar Decoration isn't enough, you actually have to wear it for the Lootbox Badge to appear on your profile.
    • Taking off the Clown Avatar Decoration would also remove the Lootbox Badge from your profile.
  • This Badge was intentionally a limited-time feature, and was made unobtainable after Discord's 2024 April Fools event ended on 8th April 2024.
  • On 8th April 2024, the Lootbox/Clown Badge became the first ever profile Badge to be fully deleted from Discord. As such, it is also the most impossible Badge to obtain. No User has Badge; and no User, not even Discord Employees, can even obtain this Badge after 8th April 2024.
    • Later, on 9th May 2024, Discord removed the connected Clown Avatar Decoration from everyone who had unlocked it.

App Badges

Note

These are Badges which only Apps can have. Yes, as in those with that blue/blurple "Bot"/"App" Tag.

"Supports Application Commands" Badge

  • Automatically given to Apps that have registered at least ONE global Application Command (Slash or Context, doesn't matter which).
  • You can learn more about Slash Commands here and Context Commands here.

"Bot has Premium features" Badge

  • Automatically given to Apps which have active in-app Premium features.
  • This shows for Apps in the App Directory
  • This also shows for Apps on their in-app pop-out Profile in Servers that have brought their in-app Premium features.
  • One example of an App that has in-app Premium features is the Would You App.
  • You can learn more about Premium Apps here.

"Uses AutoMod" Badge
