3/4 cup corn meal | |
1 cup all-purpose flour | |
1/3 cup sugar | |
3 tsp. baking powder | |
3/4 tsp. salt | |
1 cup milk | |
1 egg, well beaten | |
2 tbsp. shortening, melted | |
Mix and sift dry ingredients together. Add other ingredients and mix well. | |
Bake in a shallow buttered pan, 8x8 inches, at 425° for 20 minutes. | |
This is a lightly sweet southern-style cornbread. You can adjust the amount | |
of sugar for your desired level of sweetness. |
