Setup instructions for the Maschine Mk1 controller with Maschine 2 on Windows 10 (on macOS via VMware Fusion)

Setup instructions for the Maschine Mk1 controller with Maschine 2 on Windows 10 (in VMware Fusion)

Background

I wanted to open my old Maschine projects created prior to travel in 2015. I picked up a second hand Maschine Mk1 for a good price.

Installing Maschine 2 on Windows 10 running on VMware Fusion

On Windows (?) Drivers are installed with Maschine software

Maschine 2.7.2 (708 MB excl library) is available from NI but doesn't support Maschine Mk1.

Maschine 1.8.0 (5 GB incl library) is available through the forums and does support Maschine Mk1. When installing it, deselect the sound library feature to save space if you will only be using it as a MIDI controller.

MIDI-mapping Rebirth

On Maschine Mk1, SHIFT + CONTROL = MIDI mode.

Map Rebirth controls via:

  1. Edit > Preferences > MIDI Input > Input: Maschine Controller In
  2. Edit > Preferences > MIDI Input > Remote MIDI Control > Use Quick Mapping > Edit, or
  3. Edit > Preferences > MIDI Input > Remote MIDI Control > Use Standard Mapping - create a Maschine Controller template which maps to the Standard MIDI Mapping Tables shown from page 194 of the Propellerhead ReBirth 2.0.1 Owner's Manual

Alternatively

It's also possible to use the Maschine Mk1 in macOS and MIDI map software (like Rebirth) running on Windows in VMware Fusion. See MIDI Mapping Rebirth running on Windows 10 (in VMware Fusion).
