display resolution explained
Label / Name Resolution (W×H) Aspect ratio (most common) Pixel count (≈) Notes / typical usage
540p / qHD 960 × 540 16:9 518,400 (0.52 MP) Roughly “half” of 720p by pixels; often for older devices/low-bandwidth streaming.
720p / HD 1280 × 720 16:9 921,600 (0.92 MP) Common baseline for HD video; widely supported for streaming and broadcast.
1080p / Full HD (FHD) 1920 × 1080 16:9 2,073,600 (2.07 MP) The classic “Full HD” standard for most video platforms and content libraries.
2K 2048 × 1080 ~1.90:1 (≈ 18:9) 2,211,840 (2.21 MP) “2K” is a naming convention; in consumer video it’s often used for 2048×1080. Often confused with “Quad HD” in display contexts.
1440p / QHD / WQHD 2560 × 1440 16:9 3,686,400 (3.69 MP) A common “2× 720p” pixel count; frequently used for higher-refresh gaming and sharp desktop displays.
2160p / UHD 3840 × 2160 16:9 8,294,400 (8.29 MP) “4× 1080p” by pixel count; also referred to as UHD (Ultra HD).
4K 4096 × 2160 ~1.90:1 (≈ 256:113) 8,847,360 (8.85 MP) “4K” originates from cinema specs; many consumer streams use 3840×2160 (UHD) instead of 4096×2160.
5K 5120 × 2880 16:9 14,745,600 (14.75 MP) Common in high-end monitors and imaging/workstation contexts.
8K / 8K UHD 7680 × 4320 16:9 33,177,600 (33.18 MP) “4× 4K UHD” by pixel count; used for high-end media production and very large displays.
