LLM Wiki

A pattern for building personal knowledge bases using LLMs.

This is an idea file, it is designed to be copy pasted to your own LLM Agent (e.g. OpenAI Codex, Claude Code, OpenCode / Pi, or etc.). Its goal is to communicate the high level idea, but your agent will build out the specifics in collaboration with you.

The core idea

Most people's experience with LLMs and documents looks like RAG: you upload a collection of files, the LLM retrieves relevant chunks at query time, and generates an answer. This works, but the LLM is rediscovering knowledge from scratch on every question. There's no accumulation. Ask a subtle question that requires synthesizing five documents, and the LLM has to find and piece together the relevant fragments every time. Nothing is built up. NotebookLM, ChatGPT file uploads, and most RAG systems work this way.

I am breaking my head in Analyzing Container Filesystem Isolation For Multi-Tenant Workloads, so you don't have to

I started this investigation with a simple hypothesis; container filesystem isolation should be good enough for multi-tenant workloads without VMs, if you have a sufficient monitoring and understanding of what's happening at the syscall level. And after going through this exploration, I think I understand the answer, and it is more uncomfortable than I expected. Anyway, this write-up is the dense compilation of the notes of my work so far, and the result of that investigation.

In essence, the defaults protect you well. But the moment you reach for "advanced" features like bidirectional mount propagation or SELinux relabeling, you're one misconfiguration away from handing an attacker the keys to your host.

tl;dr

  • The kernel auto-demotes shared mounts to MS_SLAVE when creating a less-privileged mount namespace (different owning user namespace); runtimes also commonly apply recursive `

How to run Llama 13B with a 6GB graphics card

This worked on 14/May/23. The instructions will probably require updating in the future.

llama is a text prediction model similar to GPT-2, and the version of GPT-3 that has not been fine tuned yet. It is also possible to run fine tuned versions (like alpaca or vicuna with this. I think. Those versions are more focused on answering questions)

Note: I have been told that this does not support multiple GPUs. It can only use a single GPU.

It is possible to run LLama 13B with a 6GB graphics card now! (e.g. a RTX 2060). Thanks to the amazing work involved in llama.cpp. The latest change is CUDA/cuBLAS which allows you pick an arbitrary number of the transformer layers to be run on the GPU. This is perfect for low VRAM.

  • Clone llama.cpp from git, I am on commit 08737ef720f0510c7ec2aa84d7f70c691073c35d.
