Do this at home or the office, before the conference. Forty laptops building Docker images on conference wifi will not go well.
You'll need: Docker Desktop (macOS/Windows) or Docker Engine + Compose v2 (Linux), git, about 4 GB free disk, and 2 GB of RAM for Docker.
- Clone the repo
git clone https://github.com/ericmann/rampart.git
cd rampart
- Run the setup check
make doctor
It checks Docker, the images and port 8080, then tells you exactly what to run next. Usually that's make build: one time, about 5–10 minutes, needs internet.
-
Re-run
make doctoruntil it says "All set." -
Quick test: run
make up, open http://localhost:8080, and you should see the Rampart login page. Stop it with Ctrl+C.
Windows: use a WSL terminal (sudo apt install make if needed) and clone inside WSL (e.g. ~/rampart), not under /mnt/c, because file syncing from there is very slow.
Cloned earlier? git pull, then make doctor. It'll tell you if you need to rebuild.
