Yaarana helps a group on a trip keep track of who paid for what and settle up. This page says what we store, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read, not skimmed.
Yaarana never holds, moves or processes money. Every payment happens inside your own UPI app, between you and the person you pay. We do not see your bank account, card or UPI PIN, and we are not a payment service.
- Your phone number and the name you use on the trip. This is how your friends find you on a trip and how we send you a sign-in link.
- Trip data. Trip name and dates, who is on it, each expense (amount, what it was for, who paid, who shares it), and each payment's state (not yet, seen, says paid, paid, checking, let go).
- What you send the bot. When you message Yaarana on WhatsApp or Telegram, we keep the message text, photos (bills, receipts, payment screenshots) and voice notes you send it, so they can become expenses or album photos for the trip. We do not read other chats; the bot only sees messages sent to it.
- What we read off a receipt or payment screenshot. The amount, merchant, date, and on a payment screenshot the payee's UPI ID and the transaction reference, so a payment can be matched to a bill.
- Contacts, only when you ask. If you add a friend from your phone's contacts, the app reads that one name and number. We do not upload your address book.
- Sign-in and session records. Which phone signed in, when, and from which app, so links work once and sessions can be ended.
We do not collect your location, we do not run ads, and we do not use analytics or tracking SDKs in the app.
To run the trip you are on: show everyone their share, send reminders to people who have not paid, let the person who was paid confirm it, and keep the trip's photos together. Nothing else. We do not sell or rent personal data, and we do not use it to build profiles or train models.
- Meta (WhatsApp) and Telegram carry the messages between you and the bot under their own terms.
- Ollama Cloud reads receipt and payment-screenshot images for us. An image is sent to it to extract the amount, merchant and date, and is not kept there.
- Hosting and storage providers run our servers and store photos. Data is stored encrypted at rest and sent over HTTPS.
- Your trip's members see the trip's expenses, balances, payment states and album. Anyone with a trip invite link, while it is valid, can join that trip.
We disclose data to authorities only when the law requires it.
Sign-in uses a link sent to your WhatsApp or Telegram chat. It works once, for 15 minutes; trip invite links last 7 days. A session lasts 30 days and can be ended by signing out. Web pages set one cookie, for your session on that trip; there are no advertising or analytics cookies.
Trip data stays while the trip has unsettled balances or members who use it. Voice notes are kept only until the expense they describe is confirmed. Photos stay in the trip album until the trip is deleted. Sign-in links expire and are deleted; session records are removed when the session ends. When you ask us to delete your data, we do it within 30 days, except where a trip's other members still need an expense record, in which case your name on it is replaced.
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and withdraw consent. Write to the email below from the number on your account; we answer within 30 days. You can also leave a trip from the app at any time, and the organiser can delete a trip.
Yaarana is for people 18 and over, because settling up needs a UPI account.
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the bot tells you on your next trip and this page shows the new date.
