How to create an HTTPS certificate for localhost domains

This focuses on generating the certificates for loading local virtual hosts hosted on your computer, for development only.

Do not use self-signed certificates in production ! For online certificates, use Let's Encrypt instead (tutorial).

Enable Docker Remote API with TLS client verification

Docker's Remote API can be secured via TLS and client certificate verification.
First of all you need a few certificates and keys:

  • CA certificate
  • Server certificate
  • Server key
  • Client certificate
  • Client key
