Overview

WordChew is a browser extension that helps users track their daily reading volume across websites. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.

Data Collection and Usage

What We Collect

  • Word counts from visible webpage content
  • URLs of pages you visit (for displaying reading statistics)
  • Page titles (for displaying in your reading history)
  • User preferences (excluded websites)

How We Use Data

All data collected is:

  • Stored locally on your device
  • Used only for displaying your reading statistics
  • Never transmitted to external servers
  • Never shared with third parties

Data Storage

  • All data is stored using Chrome's local storage API
  • Data remains on your device
  • No cloud storage or external databases are used
  • Data can be cleared at any time through the extension interface

Permissions Explained

activeTab Permission

  • Used to access the current webpage's content
  • Only activated when you are actively viewing a page
  • Limited to counting words in visible text

Storage Permission

  • Used to save your reading statistics and preferences locally
  • No data is stored on external servers

Scripting Permission

  • Used to count words on webpages you visit
  • Only processes visible text content
  • Does not access or process any personal information

Data Security

  • No personal information is collected
  • No login required
  • No account creation
  • All processing happens locally on your device

User Control

You can:

  • Exclude websites from tracking
  • Clear your reading history at any time
  • View all stored data through the extension interface
  • Remove the extension to delete all stored data

Third-Party Services

WordChew:

  • Does not use any third-party services
  • Does not integrate with external APIs
  • Does not share data with any third parties
  • Does not use analytics or tracking tools

Updates to Privacy Policy

We will notify users of any material changes to this privacy policy through the Chrome Web Store listing.
