Review: SODI Z01T Keyboard

Review: SODI Z01T Keyboard

What Is It?

The SODI Z01T keyboard is a compact-sized combination keyboard and trackpad with the trackpad centered below the keyboard.

What I Liked

  • Has a unique tri-fold design that has two benefits: It can travel in a compact form that protects the keyboard keys, and enables the use of the accessory as a trackpad-only device
  • Comes with a carrying pouch for added protection
  • Compact size is great for travel and for those with smaller hands (even though the Amazon listing says "full size layout" it is scrunched 10% tighter than a MacBook keyboard, even though the keys may be "full size")
  • It looks close enough to a black MacBook laptop keyboard, so that it'll actually pass through in environments!
  • Typing works fine and is reliable; good clicky-key action (except see the Dislike below on trackpad jumpiness)
  • Very slim/low-profile keyboard
  • Having the lower-third exposed when trackpad is not in use is actually a plus for me; it works to have a place to rest your wrists while typing
  • Can connect up to 3 different devices
  • Reported battery life is impressive (150 hours of use/180 days of standby)

What I Disliked

  • The cursor is way too jumpy and triggers randomly while typing, because the cursor is extra sensitive to touch; it is almost a requirement to disable the trackpad while typing
  • The keyboard triggers a warning that the device is incompatible and may affect Bluetooth and Wi-Fi; that said, in practice I didn't see any such issues while using
  • It's a compact keyboard and trackpad, so those with large hands may not appreciate its compact size
  • Foldable form means you need a flat surface underneath to type comfortably (putting it on your lap may not work)

The Final Verdict

After testing so many keyboards with Vision Pro, I've learned that turning off the trackpad while typing solves so many problems with gaze and/or trackpad moving the cursor around. This is an absolute must when typing with the Z01T. If you can live with that limitation, this is a travel-sized keyboard to consider when on the go. If I didn't already have a Cooper Nomad, I'd strongly consider the Z01T as its replacement. Amazon
