Cut off date for a full time position: April 20th, 2018
Monthly/Weekly/Daily goals Monthly: Take a well rounded approach that hits the mark on outreach, daily coding, interview prep and job applications equally. Weekly: Have at least one interview per week of any time (phone, code challenge, in-person). Daily: Spend 8+ hours with specific direction and goals to each hour.
Daily Practice repo here - Each morning will be spent doing one of either exercism or codewars. Afternoons have a two hour slot to be spent working on old projects, new projects or adding to existing skillsets.
3 People I'll reach out to Al Scott - Campspot, a mentor I've talked to over the course of Turing with great industry insight. Next week, advice for next steps in career and potential job opportunity. Casey - Lessonly, company in Indianapolis that I've had some communication with that has an open FE dev position. Next 2 weeks, get her thoughts on the company and advice on how to approach interview process. Greg - Granicus, has some contacts in the crypto space and offered to help me in finding the right people to cold outreach to. Next several weeks.
3 Meetups You'll Attend ReactJS - Good networking and relevent topic. NodeJS - Area of JS that I want to learn and improve in, also a good networking opportunity. Code for Denver - Opportunity to do projects that give back to the community and a large and diverse group of developers there.
Job Search tracking system Asana board - made my own categories for tracking companies, outreach and applications. Keep the Jobs to apply to section populated such that I can find relevent people to reach out to and can stay busy on my job search.
2-3 Areas to improve when interviewing CS topics and concepts. Consistent review opportunities available with a group on Denver Devs that's going through the book on a chapter/week basis starting this week.
Turing portfolio has at least 3 projects
Summary of LinkedIn Updates Added projects, personal website and updated personal statement to profile. Connected to Turing students and alumni as well as people I've previously met within the industry
List additional area of focus Growing skillset: I feel confident in my ability to self teach concepts. I would like to continue to improve upon my understanding in some areas in addition to adding some new Languages and Frameworks to my repertoire.
Check in Contacts Kayt Hensley
Barriers Struggle with doing cold outreach: Set and keep to a goal of doing 3+ relevant outreaches per week (and hopefully 3 meetings to accompany that outreach). Use Katie Keel's Cold Outreach sessions as a tool if struggling with specific outreach. Staying organized: Use Saturday and Sunday to make sure that I am organized for the upcoming week and to remove potential blockers as needed such that I can make good use of the week.
Peer Checkins Hugh Hartigan
Area to Help with Code Challenges - Lead a code challenge or two in our group sessions (1708FE is meeting several times a week).
Peer Recommendations Eventual employer if they have additional capacity. Community people from meetups if they have open roles - as I attend those meetups in the next several weeks. Especially UI/UX design roles.
