The DDJ-FLX6 is a 4-channel software controller, not a standalone deck. It is designed mainly for Rekordbox and Serato DJ Pro on a Mac or Windows computer.
You can mix up to four software decks:
- Left jog controls Deck 1 or Deck 3
- Right jog controls Deck 2 or Deck 4
- Four full mixer channels
- Separate volume fader, trim, EQ, filter and cue for each channel
- Channel 4 can alternatively control the sampler
You only get two physical jog wheels, so decks 3 and 4 are accessed using the Deck Select buttons rather than having four independent deck sections.
The FLX6 has large, CDJ-sized capacitive jog wheels, approximately the same diameter as those on a CDJ-3000.
Each side provides:
- Play/pause
- Cue
- Temporary cueing and track searching
- Scratching
- Pitch bending
- Needle/search-style navigation through the track
- Tempo/pitch fader
- Key lock/master tempo through software

The small display in each jog wheel shows the current playback position. It is not a waveform or track-information screen.
The center mixer provides:

The layout is intentionally similar to a Pioneer CDJ/DJM club setup, making it useful for learning the general Pioneer control arrangement.
There are eight backlit pads beneath each jog wheel, for 16 total.
In Rekordbox, the primary pad modes include:

In Serato, they can control modes such as:

The exact secondary modes and Shift combinations differ between Rekordbox and Serato.
Each deck includes a conventional Pioneer-style loop section:
- Loop In
- Loop Out
- Reloop/Exit
- Adjust loop-in and loop-out points
- Call previously saved cues and loops
- Change loop length using Shift combinations
- Trigger automatic beat loops through pad modes
This is closer to a CDJ-style workflow than controllers that rely entirely on auto-loop encoders.
Each deck has:
- Beat Sync
- Master deck selection
- BPM synchronization
- Beat-grid synchronization
- Tempo adjustment with the pitch fader
You can mix manually or use Sync. The controller does not analyze tracks itself; Rekordbox or Serato handles BPM, key and beat-grid analysis.
The FLX6 includes a dedicated Pioneer-style Beat FX area on the right side of the mixer.
You can:
- Select an effect
- Select which channel receives it
- Set the effect's beat interval
- Adjust effect depth
- Turn the effect on or off
- Synchronize time-based effects to the track BPM
Available effects depend on Rekordbox or Serato. Examples commonly include echo, delay, reverb, flanger, phaser, trans, roll and similar DJ effects.
Serato's FX Pack was originally included with new units, although a used controller may not include an unused expansion voucher.
The large Merge FX knob is one of the FLX6's signature features.
It lets you trigger a multi-stage transition:
- Press to activate a preset.
- Turn the knob to increase the buildup.
- Press again to trigger the release/drop.
- Start the next track.
A Merge FX preset can combine:
- Build effects
- Repeating or rising samples
- Release effects
- Drop samples
- Automatic stopping of the outgoing track
Rekordbox allows deeper customization, with different effect and sample combinations. Pioneer says Rekordbox can combine 41 effect types into more than 9,000 possible Merge FX patterns.
It is useful for dramatic open-format transitions, especially between tracks with significantly different BPMs. It is less essential for traditional long-form beatmatching.
Jog Cutter creates automated scratch patterns.
You:
- Activate Jog Cutter
- Move the jog wheel backward and forward
- Change wheel position to choose different scratch patterns
The software applies the scratch effect around the current playback position or most recently triggered Hot Cue. There are ten scratch-pattern variations.
It can make convincing rhythmic scratch sounds without requiring traditional scratch technique, although it is not a substitute for learning manual scratching.
In Rekordbox, Sample Scratch lets you load a sampler sound—or potentially a full track—onto a deck and manipulate it with the jog wheel.
In Serato, Scratch Bank provides a similar workflow:
- Store scratch samples or tracks in preset slots
- Instantly load them
- Scratch or manipulate them using the jog
These features are especially useful for vocal stabs, sound effects and turntablism-style samples.
The central browser section lets you:
- Scroll through your music library
- Move through folders and playlists
- Load tracks onto decks
- Navigate backward through the library
- Switch focus between the software browser and deck views through Shift functions
The actual library, waveforms, BPM, key, cue points and detailed track information remain on the computer screen.
The controller has an integrated sound card, so you do not need a separate audio interface.
It supports:

- Independent headphone cueing

- Recording within Rekordbox
- Computer audio routed through the controller
It is USB bus powered, so one USB cable normally handles both control data and power.

Connecting the FLX6 hardware unlocks the basic performance functionality of both Rekordbox and Serato DJ Pro without separately buying their core performance licenses.
The FLX6/FLX6-GT also has official or manufacturer-provided support for:
- VirtualDJ
- Traktor Pro 3 using an imported mapping file
It can additionally control other MIDI-compatible software through manual MIDI mapping.
It is not officially intended as a Rekordbox-for-iPad or Serato-for-iPad controller. Its primary supported setup is a Mac or Windows computer.

It is therefore best understood as a large, club-layout software controller, rather than an all-in-one XDJ replacement.

At $425 with headphones, it could be a good value for home use, learning four-channel mixing, and preparing to move toward Pioneer club gear—provided the controller is fully functional and the headphones are worthwhile.
