Video Production Checklist

Create the footage

• Record video / performance
• Verify video framing is good
• Verify audio is good (no clipping, no dropouts, stereo isn't wonky)
• Re-record until good
• Sync video file to Mac
• Post-produce video (reframe, fix color grade, add hipster effects)
• Post-produce audio (master, compress/limit, stereo emulation for mono, maybe light reverb)
• Transcode to MP4 with Handbrake (usually "Fast1080p30" is fine)
• Verify by watching resulting video file

Upload to Youtube

• Upload video in Youtube Studio (https://studio.youtube.com/)
• Enter Video Title (<50 chars if you can help it)
• Enter Video Description (start thinking about succinct phrasing for socials)
• In Description, add at least three hashtags, these are surfaced by youtube above description
• In Description, add link (if gist/repo, upload code; if link to product, have product link ready)
• In Description, add any salient production notes ("recorded w/ iPhone mic", "live output from Deluge", etc)
• Add to appropriate playlist(s) (e.g. "jamuary2025" & "jamuary" & "synthstuff")
• Watch uploaded video, make sure it works
• Copy "youtube.com/?/watch?v=..." URL for use
• Update linked gist/repo to include link to video

Upload to Socials

• Craft post (300 chars Bluesky, 500 Mastodon, 2200 Instagram), include:
  • link to video (must be first for proper thumbnailing, or w/ Instagram, upload whole video)
  • link to gist/repo
  • hashtags
  • tag specific people/entities featured (in separate window, find their handles if you don't know)
• Make post more "conversational" than video description, more personal, these are your friends after all
• Unprivate video on Youtube, if it was set to private
• Submit the post. For me in Jan 2025, they are:
  • Mastodon
  • Bluesky
  • Instagram
