Some of you were asking how my Amtrak trip in the US went. So here's a summary from someone who loves trains, takes trains wherever possible and is willing to spend a lot of time on board, calling it fun 😄
I booked the day-time Palmetto from NYP to CHS ($80) and night-time Silver Meteor back to NYP ($110). The journey takes around 14 hours in each direction.
The Palmetto to Charleston started exactly on time in New York. Seats in the coach class are huge, especially compared to airplanes. There are many Amtrak employees in train stations and on the train. Everything well organized, clean, comfortable, safe, usable - wifi, restrooms, power sockets, board restaurant (with vegan food!), coffee, water.... You don't need any reservation, a seat will be given to you by a train attendant. They even ask for pairs and groups, so you'll be seated conveniently together.
The ride itself is nice as well. Starting in the morning from the Moynihan hall, seeing sunrise over Philadelphia and Washington, then small cities
