Fix DNS resolution in WSL2

Permanent WSL DNS Fix (WSL 2.2.1+)

If you're encountering ping github.com failing inside WSL with a Temporary failure in name resolution, you're not alone — this has been a long-standing issue, especially when using VPNs or corporate networks.

This issue is now fixed robustly with DNS tunneling, which preserves dynamic DNS behavior and avoids limitations like WSL’s former hard cap of 3 DNS servers in /etc/resolv.conf.

DNS tunneling is enabled by default in WSL version 2.2.1 and later, meaning that if you're still seeing DNS resolution issues, the first and most effective fix is simply to upgrade WSL. Upgrading WSL updates the WSL platform itself, but does not affect your installed Linux distributions, apps, or files.

To upgrade WSL, follow these steps,

How to handle exit code 137 on docker

Problem

When you use docker with "multiple commands", you will write scripts like this:

run.sh

#!/bin/sh -e

pip install --upgrade poetry
poetry config settings.virtualenvs.create false
poetry install
# https://docs.docker.com/engine/admin/systemd/
Many Linux distributions use systemd to start the Docker daemon. This document shows a few examples of how to customize Docker’s settings.
Starting the Docker daemon
Once Docker is installed, you will need to start the Docker daemon.
$ sudo systemctl start docker
# or on older distributions, you may need to use
$ sudo service docker start
If you want Docker to start at boot, you should also:

Mistakes to Avoid: Docker Antipatterns

Whichever route you take to implementing containers, you’ll want to steer clear of common pitfalls that can undermine the efficiency of your Docker stack.

Don’t run too many processes inside a single container

The beauty of containers—and an advantage of containers over virtual machines—is that it is easy to make multiple containers interact with one another in order to compose a complete application. There is no need to run a full application inside a single container. Instead, break your application down as much as possible into discrete services, and distribute services across multiple containers. This maximizes flexibility and reliability.

Don’t install operating systems inside Docker containers

It is possible to install a complete Linux operating system inside a container. In most cases, however, this is not necessary. If your goal is to host just a single application or part of an application in the container, you need to install only the essential

Simple Sentry docker-compose.yml
  1. Download docker-compose.yml to dir named sentry
  2. Change SENTRY_SECRET_KEY to random 32 char string
  3. Run docker-compose up -d
  4. Run docker-compose exec sentry sentry upgrade to setup database and create admin user
  5. (Optional) Run docker-compose exec sentry pip install sentry-slack if you want slack plugin, it can be done later
  6. Run docker-compose restart sentry
  7. Sentry is now running on public port 9000

Ubuntu php development environment

#Introduction If you're a php developer on ubuntu, there comes the time where you have to install/reinstall your system. I did it already a few times and i decided to write down the steps for a typical web developer stack with php. This is for a developer machine and not for a live environment!

I hope it helps you too!

HOWTO: Setup mail forwarding with Sendmail in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS

Copyright (c) 2011, Michael de Silva ([email protected]) Blog: http://www.bsodmike.com ~ Twitter: @bsodmike

Fix: 'config error: mail loops back to me (MX problem?)'

To prevent receiving config error: mail loops back to me (MX problem?) errors, you need to add each virtualdomain.tld to the /etc/mail/local-host-names file and re-compile your sendmail config via make.

You have asked mail to a domain (e.g., domain.net) to be forwarded to a specific host (in this case, relay.domain.net) by using an MX record, but the relay machine doesn't recognise itself as domain.net. Add domain.net to /etc/mail/local-host-names [known as /etc/sendmail.cw prior to version 8.10] (if you are using FEATURE(`use_cw_file')) or add "Cw domain.net" to your configuration file.
