Simple SVT-AV1 Beginner Guide Part 1

Since we're dealing with simpler AV1 encoding, that does mean we'll be eskewing aomenc-av1, since it requires 2-pass encoding to be able to take advantage of it, and I use it externally since I have access to a special build.

Now, let's get on with the simple guide.

You'll first need to be reasonably competent with command line builds or use a recent up to date ffmpeg GUI with support for SVT-AV1.

As such, I would recommend getting a master git ffmpeg build for the operating system of your choice right here:

Live streaming with HTML5

This document contains collected notes regarding html5 live streaming approaches. I'm trying to understand how to build a system that enables streaming of live video to HTML5 clients. Following content is mainly centered around MPEG-DASH - modern way of dealing with given needs.

Approach 1

To prepare movie.avi from MPEG-DASH streaming we will execute following ffmpeg commands:

> ffmpeg -y -i movie.avi -an -c:v libx264 -x264opts 'keyint=24:min-keyint=24:no-scenecut' -b:v 1500k -maxrate 1500k -bufsize 3000k -vf "scale=-1:720" movie-720.mp4
> ffmpeg -y -i movie.avi -an -c:v libx264 -x264opts 'keyint=24:min-keyint=24:no-scenecut' -b:v 800k -maxrate 800k -bufsize 1600k -vf "scale=-1:540" movie-540.mp4
> ffmpeg -y -i movie.avi -an -c:v libx264 -x264opts 'keyint=24:min-keyint=24:no-scenecut' -b:v 400k -maxrate 400k -bufsize 800k -vf "scale=-1:360" movie-360.mp4

Tunnelling SSH over SSL/TLS

How to tunnel SSH over SSL/TLS

laptop ssh -> laptop stunnel -> evil network -> internet -> your server -> your server ssh

Server (your shell server/home box/work box/whatever)

Sets up a stunnel process listening externally on port 2443/tcp, forwards to localhost 22/tcp

  • Install stunnel, e.g. yum install stunnel
  • Install server config snippet to /etc/stunnel/stunnel.conf
# This is the ssh client system-wide configuration file. See
# ssh_config(5) for more information. This file provides defaults for
# users, and the values can be changed in per-user configuration files
# or on the command line.
# Configuration data is parsed as follows:
# 1. command line options
# 2. user-specific file
# 3. system-wide file
# Any configuration value is only changed the first time it is set.
